CLUB NEWS!!

Another fantastic week for Island Wheelers kicked off last Sunday with the previously reported, very successful Cross Country MTB races in Wicklow. These events have been very well supported by the club and our Youth are performing exceptionally well showing the future is bright for Island Wheelers. Massive thanks most go to everyone who gives up their time to help provide the coaching and support that it takes to organise such a great team of Youth Competitors.

Tuesday night saw the start of the Interclub League and it was once again an Island Wheeler youth rider stealing the headlines when Matthew McAllister (U16) took an excellent 2nd place. We had a good few riders in the mix and it was great to see such a turn out on what was a testing course.

Our Wednesday Night club runs continue to be incredibly popular with a few groups on the road ensuring riders of all levels are catered for. Wednesday runs will continue to leave from The Corn Mill at 18:30 and it would be great to see more new faces.

The ICL5 then started on Thursday night with Lakeland hosting the first event of the season on a super circuit that included a testing climb of Fintona Mountain not once but twice. The ICL5 is comprised of both an A and a B race with Island Wheelers being represented in both. Shea Kelly took 6th place in a fiercely competitive A Race followed home shortly after by Conor Devlin, Marty Graham and John Ferrity.

In only his second ever race, Alan Glendenning attacked the B Race on the first ascent of Fintona Mountain before staying off the front for some 50minutes in a group of four. They were eventually caught by scratch and Alan still had enough strength to take 3rd place at the top of Fintona Mountain.
