During the darkest days of the winter of 2009/2010 two new novice cyclists joined us on the Pleasure Team Saturday morning runs. These were the siblings John and Dwyer O’ Hagan. Although both were coming from a fitness background, (John as a marathon runner and Dwyer as an accomplished and talented pugilist), cycling was new to them both. However, they both adapted well, picking up the skills quickly and more importantly getting into the Pleasure Team psyche.
Having spent a year honing their skills and building their fitness both brothers were keen to move on to greater cycling challenges. Encouraged and guided by their Pleasure Team associates both brothers successfully moved into the ‘elite cycling circle’ during the 2010/2011 season. Although now cycling with the ‘top ranks’ neither brother forgot their humble cycling roots ,(and were certainly never embarrassed by them); on many a Saturday morning they would still join the Pleasure Team run, taking time to encourage any new recruits and joining in the craic.
So, it was a great honour when in late autumn members of the Pleasure Team received an invitation to Dwyer’s wedding which was to take place on the 29th of December 2011. In the weeks leading up to the wedding the Pleasure Team saw little of Dwyer as he dedicated himself to preparing for the big day. We anticipated something special and we were not to be disappointed.
On the 29th the Pleasure Team assembled with the other guests at the beautiful setting of Corrick House where both the marriage ceremony and the reception were to take place. The wedding ceremony itself took place at 2 O’clock, then while the new Mr and Mrs O Hagan posed for photos the rest of us relaxed in luxury drinking tea and coffee, eating nibbles while all the time listening to a beautiful traditional music group.
At 5 O’clock we were led to the Orchid suite where the reception proper was to take place. Here we were treated to fine wines, rich foods and excellent entertainment. When the reception finally wound up in the early hours the Pleasure Team agreed that we had done justice to the wines, foods and dance floor; that we had, had an excellent day and enjoyed every minute of it.
The Pleasure Team would like to take this opportunity to wish Dwyer and Majella every success in the future and to let Dwyer know that we’ll keep a place open for him on the Pleasure Team to help with his comeback in 2012.
