The Saturday Pleasure Group Brave the Elements

“Have the Ironmen started to rust?” was the question on the lips of the small hardcore of Pleasure Cyclists who headed out on the last Saturday of November. The snow and hard frost should have been enough to ensure that all sensible cyclists stayed safely wrapped up in their blankets; however, a small dedicated band decided to face the elements and headed out for what turned out to be a very enjoyable 34 miles.

Restricted to well salted roads we headed to the Moy and then along the Moy to Portadown road. At Summer Island big Dermot got a puncture, so we pulled in at the gates of Summer Island Orange Hall and stood in glorious sunshine (despite the sub zero temperature) while this was fixed. We then cycled on as far as the Scotch Street garage on the outskirts of Portadown. We stopped here and warmed ourselves with a bowl of stew washed down with a mug of coffee. We then returned to base along the same route only in reverse.

G Scott.
