One of the most rewarding aspects of being involved with the Pleasure Team, is to witness a new cyclist join our ranks, and over a period of weeks watch that novice develop their skills and become an experienced cyclist. Over the years there have been quite a few. This year big Dermot has been a superb new recruit ; joining us in the autumn, he turned up regularly throughout one of the harshest winters on record and has already developed into a fine cyclist. Cycling is not his only passion however, he is also a fine Gaelic player ( playing for Eglise ) and is also co-manager of St Joseph’s U16 football team, which this week won the McArthur cup, becoming the Ulster U16 Champions by beating St Mark’s Warrenpoint in a thrilling game. The Pleasure Team would like to congratulate Dermot on this great achievement and give him and the team our support in their All-Ireland campaign.
This Friday (11th March ) I am due to give blood again. Many Island Wheelers are already blood donors, and we in the Pleasure Team like to promote the cause. So, if you are not already a blood donor I would ask you to make the effort this Friday to become one. Hopefully you will never need to receive blood, but you never know ! As for the myth that it will effect your performance – absolute nonsense.
