Ways to ride this winter

As the leaves turn their autumn colours and fall, the summer sun might feel like a distance memory.  With the days getting shorter and unpropitious weather looming, getting up out on your bike might seem more challenging than before.   However it is also the most important time to maintain and build upon that new level of fitness that many have worked hard to achieve over the summer months.  This winter, the club have a number of different training approaches to keep you in shape for next season.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

The Island Wheelers mountain biking club took off with a bang last year and has been growing ever since, especially during the cooler months with many enjoying it to a change from the road.  The mountain bikers meet every Thursday evening at 6pm for an hour or two, led by Cathal and Aidan.  Typical locations include Drumcairne and Davagh.  The trails are suitable for both first time mountain bikers and experienced mountain bikers and are seriously good fun!  Drop Aidan an email if you’re interested for more information at aidan@evolutionhealthcare.co.uk  Good lights are essential for these runs.  The guys also try to head out most weekends so if you fancy a change from the road bike give them a shout!

ISLAND WHEELERS TURBO SESSIONS

The first of ten turbo training sessions began last Wednesday (19th October) and will continue every Wednesday at 7pm in the Gortgonis Centre.  The 10 week plan has been devised by Simon Williams, who is a personal trainer and top cyclist.  For more information please contact James.

CYCLOCROSS

Some members have expressed an interest in doing some Cyclocross racing over next couple of months.  For more information please click here or contact Alan at amck111@hotmail.com if you fancy trying something different.

ROAD

As well as the above, there will of course be the usual weekend spins, so please keep checking back for the next route.
