Prize giving for this year’s Ernie Magwood Super Six Time Trial League was held on Thursday 15th December in Bluebells Restaurant, Cookstown. Bluebells also very generously provided food for everyone and helped insure that an enjoyable night was had by all.
The Ernie Magwood Super Six Time Trial League, promoted by the Island Wheelers CC and East Tyrone CC could not have been run without the help from a number of people. Thanks goes to everyone involved; to James Mclaughlin and David Heagney for doing a fantastic job in organising the event. To Anna-Marie Heagney who was on hand at the sign on at every event; to Carmel Ann and Oliver Hunter and Gordon Parker for doing a great job in time keeping; to everyone who helped marshal the events; and to the riders who competed in the series. Also, a big thank you to the league sponsors; Universal Products LTD, Richard Davidson Motors and Bluebells restaurant for supporting the league.
As with previous years, top cyclists from all over the country took part in the league, however it was John Heverin of Clann Eireann CC who was a well-deserved overall winner of the league, winning 5 out of the 6 races. Ivan Robinson finished 2nd overall and our own Richard Davidson finishing 3rd overall. This is another fantastic result for Richard and the club, especially considering the strength of the competition.
Gillian Orr (Ards CC) was the 1st overall lady, with Island Wheeler Sheena O’Neil finishing 2nd overall lady.
Stevie Baines of TVR won the vets overall ahead of Brendan McCourt (Northern-Dave Kane), with Island Wheeler, Noel McLoughlin taking 3rd place. A massive well done to all the prize winners and an even bigger well done to all the riders who supported each event without troubling the podium positions, there’s always next year!
