Donnelly, Talbot & Burns take on Ironman 70.3 Ireland

The Island Wheelers triathletes; Gareth Donnelly, Kieran Talbot and Claire Burns, were racing in Galway on Sunday at the Ironman 70.3 event.  All three had been training hard over the last few months for this prestigious race, however Gareth and Keiran were unfortunate to be both subjected to stomach problems during the race (a third athlete also travelling with them encountered the same problems, so something must have been a bit dodgy in what the ate the day before).

However the pair didn’t let the far from ideal circumstances stop them from competing and both athletes recorded great times.

Gareth completed the race in a time of 5 hours and 17 minutes, with Kieran coming in not far behind with a time of 5 hours 37 minutes.  Fantastic results, made even better considering the circumstances.

The third wheeler in the trio – female triathlete Claire Burns, topped off her honeymoon by completing the half Ironman event in a great time of 6hrs 34
