The streets of Coalisland were a rainbow of colour on what was a mild, but breezy Sunday morning thanks to the 100+ cyclists who took part in this years Island Wheelers Reliability Trial. Cyclists from across the province came to test their fitness amongst the Island men, with a notable representation from a number of neighbouring cycling clubs which was very much appreciated.
The 104 cyclists rolled out of Coalisland at 10.00am, accompanied by lead, sweeper and support vehicles. The route took the riders through Stewartstown, Cookstown, Moneymore, Desertmartin,Tobermore, Toome, Ballyroan, Coagh and back to Stewartstown and Coalisland. The challenging 100km route was met with a fast pace, with the group clocking over 21mph average. After a hard morning in the saddle, everyone was delighted to be greeted with an excellent spread of refreshments when they returned to the Gortgonis Hall, Coalisland.
Many thanks to all the cyclists who came from near and far to support the event, and to everyone from the club who played a part in organising and running the Reliability Trial, especially to our club members who drove the lead car, backup cars and van and also who helped out with tea and sandwiches after, it was much appreciated from everyone.
