Wheelers out in force at Round 1 of the XMTB Spring League

Sunday saw the start of the MTB racing season with the first round of the Mc Convey XMTB in Ormeau Park. Oh how things have changed for the Wheelers, instead of the two or three mountain biking representatives a few years ago, we had 14 Island wheelers of all ages racing on Sunday. It’s great to see the diversity within the club and even more fulfilling to see the amount of youth involved, this can only be good for cycling and our club in general.  There where 3 father and sons acts from the Wheelers (with the sons definitely showing more promise than their fathers!!) so a great day for all.

In the senior event we had Cathal Mc Guigan , Paul Daly, Sean Scullion, Gerard Mc Veigh, Joe Murtagh, Justin Quinn, Sean Bleeks , Joe Murtagh and Gary Rafferty- all the guys put on a great show and pushed each other hard- there is a Stewarts enquiry over the Island Wheelers results but I don’t want to drag you all into this handbags at dawn row! All will be sorted.

The youth again need the special mention

U16 Conor Boyle 3rd  Great result again Conor.
U 10 Darren Rafferty 3rd  on the podium again, Dairmuid Mc Guigans first race and finished, congratulations to him.
U8    Adam Rafferty – now an experienced campaigner,Shane Scullion and Lorcan Mc Guigan first race and finished, congratulation to them.

This event is on in the Ormeau Park for the next 2 weeks as well, take your kids, its great, you don’t even have to ride yourself!

Again thank you all for representing the club in such big numbers.
