All the best to Cathal McLaughlin who will be racing in the Tour of the North this coming weekend for Cookstown CCT. Cathal is the youngest senior rider in the club and has been training hard in preparation for the race all year. He has been racing most Saturdays and Sundays since the season started and finished strongly in both the gruelling Wallace Caldwell last Saturday and Bann Valley Classic on Sunday.
The Tour of the North is one of the longest running stage races in Northern Ireland. Ireland’s top riders Sean Kelly and Stephen Roche are both amongst the list of past competitors, with Kelly winning in 1976. This is the 50th edition of the race and this year teams from across Ireland will be competing against riders from England, Scotland and Holland. The race this year features 4 stages, 3 road and 1 time trial – more details about each stage can be found here.
So on behalf of the club we want to wish Cathal the best of luck in his first Tour of the North and hope this is the first of many in the years to come.
