Round 2 of the Ulster cross-country (XC) mountain bike series took place at Ballykelly Forest near Limavady on Sunday past, 6 April 2014. Host club Caldwell Cycles, put on a great event with a well-marked course, sign on and huge selection of food. The weather was good with lots of blue skies and sunshine but there was a couple of brief periods of spring rains, the most significant was just before the start of the noon races which affected parts of the course making the ground very slippery.
Youth racing was first up and got underway at 10:30, with Rhys Hepburn and Odharon Ferrity finishing 1st and 2nd in the Under 6s race, well done boys. Next up were the Under 8s with Callum Hepburn 2nd Ciaran Scullion 7th in the boys race, Aliyah Rafferty 3rd in the girls section.
The Under 10s (2 laps) and 12s (4 laps) had the same track which took them up over the ridge above the finish line to then drop down to the fire road for a sprint finish.

Scott Roberts 2nd Adam Rafferty 4th Oisin Ferrity 5th and Shane Scullion 6th in u10 boys
Darren Rafferty won a very close u12 boys race
Conor Boyle had a strong 5th in the u16 race
Next up where the senior 4’s, with Kieran Gilligan taking a great win followed Gordon Roberts 4th Sean Bleeks 5th Gerard Ferrity 7th and Gary Rafferty 17th
In senior 3 race Thomas finished 3rd for the wheelers, while both Raymond Rocks and Sean Scullion had mechanicals when they were both leading the race. Cathal Mcguigan came 22nd in senior 3 race.
