Event: Sprint Triathlon
Host: Greenvale Leisure Centre Magherafelt
It was great to see two Island Wheelers, Sheena O’Neill and Declan Corrigan, take on the Greenvale Sprint Triathlon this morning. The Triathlon was run to raise funds for Charis Integrated Cancer Care and the route was certainly challenging, incorporating the tough climb from Moneymore up Springhill and on to The Loop.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with a sprint Triathlon it is broken down into a Swim of 750m, 20km Bike leg with a 5km run to finish and is flat-out from the start. Our two wheelers performed exceptionally well and were able to show their strength on the bike leg especially.
Sheena O’Neill completed the event in the following time:
Swim: 21:58
Bike: 43:08
Run: 30:05
Total: 01:39:51
Declan Corrigan competing in his first Tri event came in with the following times:
Swim: 16:13
Bike: 36:48
Run: 27:43
Total: 01:24:30
For anyone in the club interested in Triathlon events we now have a large number of members participating regularly from Sprint Distance Tri’s right up to the full Ironman distance. These are incredibly sociable events and we would encourage anyone interested to get in touch as you will be sure to enjoy the achievement. The club would also like to congratulate Sheena’s sister Ciara Herron who also completed her first Triathlon in a fantastic time of 02:07:10.
Thanks again to Greenvale Leisure Centre on providing a fantastic event with a great spread of soup and refreshments afterwards.
