Paddy and Pete at StrabaneLAST TRAINING RUN FOR WICKLOW 200
Three Club members (Paddy Mc Nally, Vanessa Rafferty and Peter Corr) completed their training programme for the up-coming Wicklow 200 (Sunday 8 June) with a 98 mile run to Strabane and back on Saturday morning.
The group left Coalisland at 7.00 am and headed for Cookstown before taking on the first climb of the day over Lough Fea. Then followed the long arduous drag up the scenic Glenelly Valley to Plumbridge. From there came the very tough climb up to the TV mast overlooking Strabane and the rapid descent into the town. After a quick cup of coffee the intrepid trio headed back up the climb to the TV mast in the reverse direction and headed back to Plumbridge. From there it was up the KOH climb to Gortin and then on towards Rousky, Greencastle, Dunamore, Orritor and Cookstown before arriving back at the Cornmill in Coalisland.
The weather was fantastic and made the day all the more enjoyable. The run incorporated 7200 feet of climbing and was completed in a riding time of 6 hours and 20 minutes. Marty Early accompanied Paddy, Vanessa and Peter up to Plumbridge.
Sunday 8 June will see the Island Wheelers Club well-represented in the Wicklow 200, starting and finishing in Greystones, and taking in some of the most iconic climbs in the Wicklow mountains.
