NPS Round 5 – Garvagh Forest

Date: Sunday 22 June 2014
Event: Ulster Series Round 4 / NPS Round 5
Location: Garvagh Forest
Host club: Carn Wheelers

Garvagh Forest was the location for Round 5 of the Irish Mountain Bike Cross-Country National Point Series (NPS). This round also doubled up as Round 4 of the Ulster Cross-country (XC) series.

Carn Wheelers had done a great job with their course design, it had it all, drop offs, jumps, single track, rock gardens etc, they even managed to book sunshine for the day!

Again plenty of wheelers made the trip to Garvagh, first up, as usual were the ‘Wee Wheelers’ and again they didn’t disappoint with all putting in great performances and some podium finishes, well done kids!

Next up was the Senior 4 race, with Kieran Gilligan floating round the course on his full sus, to take 2nd place, Gordon 5th, Gerard 6th, Sean Bleeks 11th and Gary 17th. The s4’s enjoyed a liquid lunch (recovery drink) after their race, or some could have been drowning their sorrows, after Skelly claimed a few IW scalps.
Janice again had a great result taking the win in the ladies senior 3 category.

In the main event the lads had 3 laps to complete, Sean who has been in great form of late was on the podium again, taking 3rd spot followed by Thomas 6th, Raymond 9th and our long serving MTBer Cathal in 21st
Once the racing and prize giving was complete it was back to the car park for cake! As one of the wee wheelers, Scott was celebrating his birthday.

Thanks again to everyone for continually coming out week after week to represent the club at these events. Overall ulster league tables up on ulster mtb. Round 6 of the NPS will take place on 6 July at Bellurgan Park hosted by Cuchulainn CC.
