Huge congratulations go to fellow Island Wheeler – Dean Burnside who raced to victory on Friday night at the annual Sprint Triathlon in his home town of Dungannon. It was held by the dedicated team at TriLimits.
The race started in Lough Eskragh with a 750m open water swim. At 7.30pm on the evening of 31st May 2013, 74 triathletes hit the water hard when the klaxon went off!
Dean exited the water comfortably in the top third of the field but it was on the bike that he really showed his winning colours. Dean has been training tirelessly over the past few months for Ironman Austria, and so has really been building his bike strength and overall endurance up.
He rode his way through the field on the 20km course and rode off the front giving him a comfortable 50sec lead going into T2 where he pulled on his trainers for the final 5km run.
He managed to put in a steady tough run and held on for the win!
A fantastic result for the young Island Wheeler and will be one to watch when he returns to the road racing scene later this summer, after also showing a strong ride at this years PJ Logan event where he took first Island Wheeler home in the A4 race.
