Race Season Starts – Island Wheeler finishes in Top Ten
Well done to John O’Hagan who finished a fantastic 9th place in Saturdays Travers Engineering Annaclone Grand Prix A4 race – hopefully John will move up the rankings through the season and the club wishes him well. Well done to all other club riders representing the club in the weekends races – there’s a long way to go and we will hopefully see more of the Island Wheeler red and yellow in the leading bunches coming up to cross the finish lines.
Club Kit Order has arrived
The recent club kit order has now arrived and there will be a distribution night on Monday 28th Feb at the order of Malta Hall 7pm-8pm – if anyone misses this message or still wants kit, then please contact James on 07714 696 789.
Two Spring mornings for Cycling over the weekend.
Saturday and Sunday morning past seen the Wheelers come out in force for the weekend club rides. On Saturdays pleasure run, we seen a fine morning start with some new faces joining the fray. 4 new riders took to the roads and all enjoyed the 33 mile experience. Hopefully we shall see these members build up their cycling endurance and strength, get their club colours on their backs and start enjoying the Sunday runs as well.
Sunday saw 16 riders eager to get going in more blustery spring conditions. An enjoyable ride down towards Monaghan into the wind was had and on the turn the riders were not impressed to seemingly be cycling into wind on the road back! 55 miles were clocked up and banked which will hold in good stead in the coming months.
PJ Logan Cup and Gerald Long Memorial
Race season has arrived and already eyes are firmly focused on the PJ Logan Cup event on Sunday 27th March. This is a favourite amongst club riders throughout the north and entries to the competition will fill up fast to ensure their place on the starting line. Online entry will open this week and can be found at the Island Wheelers club website islandwheelers.com – plus information on the start times, route and other information.
If riders need a warm up to the PJ Logan, the Gerald Long Memorial will be held in the Coalisland area and is being run by Garry Nugent – it is open to A1, A2, A3 & A4 riders – this event is to run on the 13th March and the race HQ will be Clonoe GAC grounds – more info on this event can be found at the Tour of Ulster website tourofulster.com
