Saturday Group Notes

Despite the inclement weather the Pleasure Team had a strong showing on Saturday 4th, with almost a dozen cyclists turning up. The morning was clear and bright but bitterly cold, and with ice on all the minor roads we decided to play safe and follow the exact same route as the previous week, i.e. to the Moy, then the Moy – Portadown road as far as the Scotch Street garage and then return by the same route.

Sean J. was able to join us this week. At 10.30 he was on the bike and itching to get going. Unfortunately for Sean he had forgotten his gloves: – a mistake he will never make again. By the time we the Moy his fingers were on the verge of frost bite; luckily enough, at this point the Master was starting to overheat and he was able to donate his gloves to a very grateful Sean.

By the time we reached Scotch Street garage the team was well warmed up, but at the same time we were all looking forward to a bowl of hot soup or mug of coffee.

The coffee had the desired effect on cousin Kris who had spent the morning trying to shake off the effects of the Wheelers Christmas party from the previous night. On the return trip Kris went to the front and set a cracking pace back towards the Moy. The team had to work hard to maintain discipline, but with the temperature below zero everyone was glad to make the extra effort just to keep warm.
