This Sunday, the Island Wheelers are hosting the hugely anticipated PJ Logan Cup Road Race. Over 150 riders are expected to take to the unusual figure of eight circuit outside Coalisland. The 6.8 mile circuit is fast and furious with no breaks for tired legs; any descents are suddenly swept up into yet another climb. The nature of the circuit promises some fantastic racing for the spectators, with groups coming round quickly from different directions.
The circuit itself starts along the Tartlaghan Road, and takes a left onto the Bush Road. The race then takes a left at the Bush crossroads, another left off the Cavan Road to Coash Road. At the Drumkee Crossroads the race takes a right then a left onto the Ballynakelly Road followed by another left onto the Coash Road, and finally a right at the Drumkee Crossroad. The A*/A1/A2 race will complete nine laps of the circuit, the A3 race will do seven laps, the A4 race five laps and Ladies race three laps.
The first race starts at 12.00 with all racing scheduled to come to a conclusion around 14.30. The Committee would request public co-operation of residents living in the area by ensuring all animals, particularly dogs, are safely secured during the race and by making sure cars are parked of the circuit. Thanks to all in advance.
As with other years, the Island Wheelers will be strongly represented, let’s hope the home advantage can lead to a number of results! The Island Wheelers would like to wish everybody taking part in Sunday’s race’s to have an enjoyable and safe race, hopefully the weather picks up too!
